Leidos Lead Systems Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama

The Defense Systems Sector, is seeking a talented Lead Systems Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos – Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Lead Systems Engineer will work in a matrixed organization at Leidos – Dynetics, which supports multiple programs at once in a variety of engineering fields with all different team environments, from the large-scale programs that Leidos – Dynetics is the prime contractor for, like the Hypersonics Weapons Program and High Energy Laser Program, to smaller-scale programs for which Dynetics provides support as a subcontractor to companies in the top 100 DoD contractors. The Lead Systems Engineer will support the Enduring Shield Program , which is a ground-based, mobile system that aims to combat cruise missiles and unmanned aircraft systems. As part of the Enduring Indirect Fire Protection Capability program (IFPC), the system protects and defends civilian and military infrastructure and bridges the gap between tactical short range air defense systems and our strategic systems. When the program ends, the Lead Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to support a different program in the matrixed Leidos – Dynetics portfolio. A candidate with experience in other systems engineering areas such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Risk Management, and Reliability Analysis will be treated preferentially. However, a strong background in traditional systems engineering and technical leadership is what is required for this position.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Lead Systems Engineer will manage requirements specifications derived from customer needs for the Enduring Shield Program . The selected candidate will interface with the government customer, program management, the cost accounting manager, subcontractors, and design engineers to support a program’s systems engineering needs throughout its

design life cycle, including modeling system behavior, defining the system architecture, dictating system interfaces, performing requirements verification, helping develop test programs, and maintaining configuration management. The selected candidate will present the systems engineering artifacts they have developed to the customer in formal design reviews and will serve as a customer liaison. The selected candidate will also be responsible for recurring deliverables to the customer, including adjudicating their comments.

The Lead Systems Engineer will lead a team of up to 3 Full-time Engineers (FTE) and be responsible for providing tasking for each individual on the team. The team effort will include managing an existing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) model. The Lead Systems Engineer must interact with the model and task engineers to develop artifacts within the model, but is not expected to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in MBSE.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 8+ years of experience or an MS with 6+ years

  • Experience in deriving requirements for complex electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software systems.

  • Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively leading a team of engineers.

  • Demonstrated experience accurately estimating the engineering effort (i.e. hours) associated with Systems Engineering tasks.

  • Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (as well as maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will also have experience and/or working knowledge with:

  • MagicDraw and/or other Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) modeling tools

  • DOORS and/or other requirements database tools

  • Understanding of the DoD acquisition processes and methods

  • Experience supporting one or more DoD programs

  • Object Management Group (OMG) Certified System Modeler Professional (OCSMP) certification

  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification (ASEP or CSEP)

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
